The Advertising Standards Authority of South Africa recently ruled that “There was no evidence, before the Directorate, that the use of the word vegetarian is regulated or should be used in a certain way.” Uhm, ok. This is our advertising watch dog refusing to admit that use of the word ‘vegetarian’ requires to regulation in advertising. The ruling was made in a case where a consumer lodged a complaint against a Wimpy menu containing the words “Remove the meat for a vegetarian option.” For this ‘vegetarian’ meal Wimpy happily fried onions on the same grill its uses to cook its meat. I’m the first to accept that vegetarians should probably avoid burger joints over mealtimes but this doesn’t change the …

Back in Durban.
Well I’m finally back on home soil. Flip. Bummed. Click here to read a really good review of the flight situation in Europe “This is the first time UK airspace has been closed since world war 2″ My luggage didn’t show up, no surprise. I haven’t seen it since I left durban on thursday night! So yes I’ve been wearing the same clothes since then, slept in them, and done dubai in them. All in all though a one in a million experience. I was part of history!
Increased volcano activity, decreased flight activity.
1. Back at the hotel I see reports of increased volcanic activity. 2. Even if flights opened tomorrow, first available seat to europe is 27 april (groezrock is 23 april) 3. I’m not thaaaat keen to spend my holiday and money in Dubai. 4. Snapcase probably won’t be able to come in for any shows either.. So I’m heading to dubai airport in a few hours to see about turning tale and heading home! Cut the losses I think. Emirates may even be refunding these tickets apparently so that would make it a bit easier to stomach. Good night arabia.
Skyscrapers and fountain shows
Long story short (cos wifi is limited): All flights to Europe were cancelled today which means I got to spend another day in the UAE. Let’s be posi hey! So I took a cab into town where life improved phenomenally. Civilisation!! I’m convinced there is more money in this town than anywhere else in the world. I spent the afternoon browsing a 1200 store mall called THE MALL of DUBAI. Largest in the world? Outside it is the tallest building in the world. Next to both is the largest light water fountain music show in the world. And I haven’t been to the yacht mole yet..I’m sure the most insane yachts are parked there. Decided to compromise personal standards a …
Day 2 begins. Trying to get to Frankfurt.
Can’t say I’m too excited about this days prospects. Starting it off with a breakfast buffet at the Royal Crown though, that should perk me up So far this morning all flights to my destination of choice, frankfurt, have been cancelled. My flight status (at 230pm) is listed as a GO, but from what I hear that can change 5mins before boarding and all others earlier this morning were cancelled. Word on cnn is that this could last a good few more days. There are people here at the hotel who have been given a seat to munich next friday only!!? Getting a bit frustrated now, the novelty is wearing off So the plan is to go back to dubai …
